The Sunyani Municipality celebrated Ghana's 68th Independence Day with a thrilling inter-circuit quiz competition among six circuits and a private school. The event, held at the forecourt of the Veterans Association of Ghana’s (VAG) hall, aimed to promote academic excellence and patriotism among students.

The event was organized by the Sunyani Municipal Education Directorate in collaboration with the Municipal Assembly. It formed part of the municipality's Independence Day celebrations and was preceded by a float by the schools through the principal streets of Sunyani.

The quiz, which saw fierce competition among the participating schools, was graced by the Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Seidu Mubarak. In his address, Hon. Mubarak emphasized the importance of education in nation-building and encouraged students to take their studies seriously and become active participants in nation-building. He presented the schools with sanitation equipment, stressing the need for schools to instill the spirit of cleanliness in school children. He encouraged the students to cultivate the habit of cleanliness and desist from littering the environment.

The six circuits and private schools that participated in the quiz were Abesim, Atronie, Circuits A, B, C, D, and Selis International School representing private schools in the municipality. After a keenly contested competition, Selis International School emerged victorious, taking home the coveted trophy. However, all participating circuits received prizes.

The Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Isaac Brown Ankomah, commended the students for their participation and urged them to strive for excellence. He noted that the theme, “Reflect, Review and Reset,” was apt as it encourages Ghanaians to take stock of their achievements and challenges and work towards a better future. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by the forefathers in securing independence and advised them to prioritize their education by investing their time in studies and meaningful research rather than being distracted by social media and unhealthy relationships.

The Municipal Education Director, Mr. Mark Godfred Domah, also expressed satisfaction with the success of the event and commended the students for their impressive performance. "We are proud of our students, and we will continue to support them to achieve academic excellence," he said.
