A new entrant from the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) Mr. Seid Mubarak has beaten the unseated incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh as MP elect for the Sunyani East constituency of the Bono Region.

By the certified results from the Electoral Commission, Mr. Mubarak garnered 34,453 votes as against 22,306 votes polled by the incumbent, Mr. Ameyaw-Cheremeh. Mr. Mubarak’s victory ends the incumbent MP’s 16 years occupancy of the parliamentary seat of the Sunyani east constituency.

Other candidates, Mr. Alanyina Sampana Sampson of the PNC and an independent candidate, Mr. Ransford Antwi polled 222 and 8, 294 votes respectively

In the presidential race, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP polled 31,399 votes’ whiles the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama secured 31,978. Of the 116982 registered voters expected to vote in 258 polling stations in the Sunyani East Constituency, a total of 66025 people voted with 967 rejected ballots.
