In a bid to boost the government’s efforts to improve local commerce and sporting activities, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani East, Hon. Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Ansu Kumi has officially commissioned a new market facility and an astroturf pitch of Abesim and Penkwase respectively on Wednesday, December 4.

The commissioning ceremony held at the premises of the new market at Abesim, saw the attendance of Barima Kumi Acheaw III chief of Abesim traditional area, the queenmother, Nana Konam Biyaa II and members of the traditional council of the area. Throngs of people including, market women, local government officials, and residents grace the occasion.

Barima Kumi Akyeaw III commended the government for completing the project which had stalled for years. He was optimistic that, the market would boost economic activities in the area.

The Deputy Attorney General, Lawyer Alfred Tuah Yeboah urged the people to support the government by putting the facility to good use.

The MP, Hon. Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh emphasized the importance of the market as a means in promoting economic growth within the Sunyani Municipality, and encouraged the traders that would use the facility to maintain it well. He called for continued support for the government for sustainable development.

The MCE, Hon. Ansu Kumi was full of praise for the government, the MP, traditional leaders and residents of Abesim for their concerted efforts that, has brought the market project to fruition and asked the people to safeguard the peace of the area in the coming elections. He encouraged all to vote in their numbers.

Local traders expressed their excitement about the new market. A trader, who has operated in Abesim for over a decade, expressed her enthusiasm: "This market will change the way we do business. “We now have a space that attracts more customers and allows us to grow our enterprises."

At the commissioning of the Astroturf pitch funded by Bui Power Authority, Hon. Ameyaw-Cheremeh who happens to be the Board Chairman for Bui Power Authority said that, the facility was designed to promote sports and recreational activities among the youth. . "With this astroturf, we aim to provide our young people with the facilities they need to train and excel in various sports. It’s not just about playing; it's about building character and community,” he remarked.

Nana Kusi Boadum, chief of Penkwase, expressed his appreciation to the government. He underscored the need for more investments in youth development and sports infrastructure.

The commissioning concluded with a tour of the facilities, allowing attendees to get a firsthand look at the new market layout and the Astroturf.
