The Bono region of Ghana on Monday 11th November joined other Commonwealth nations to mark this year’s Remembrance Day with a wreath laying ceremony at the forecourt of the Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG) hall in Sunyani.

There was a blowing of a siren at the 11th hour and a reading of the binyon verse by the chairman of VAG, WO Asante Fred.

The Regional Minister, Hon. Justina Owusu Banahene laid a wreath on behalf of the government and people of Ghana, while the MCE for Sunyani Hon. Ansu Kumi, laid one on behalf of the chiefs and people of the Bono Region.

DCOP Justice Oklu Gyamerah laid the third wreath on behalf of the security service, whiles Lt. Col. Appau, the 3rd Garrisson Commander laid the fourth for the Ghana Armed Forces, with WO Asante Fred laying one for the VAG.

Remembrance Day is held on November 11 every year since 1918 to remember and pay respect to all fallen soldiers of World War I and II, as well as those who were involved in other conflicts the world over. Observance of this event is also aimed at reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to peace and security both domestically and internationally.
